Dominican Literacy Center, a nonprofit offering adult education programming on the east side of Detroit, is looking for a mission oriented part-time computer instructor.  Responsibilities include assisting/teaching in the computer lab, orienting individuals to the computer lab/technology, monitoring online instruction.

Professional Qualifications:

o   Associate’s degree in related field; bachelor’s preferred

o   Teaching experience

o   Five or more years of related experience

o   Mission orientated

o   Ability to interface with and engage diverse population

Executive Director –Siena Literacy Center

Position Overview

The Siena Literacy Center (SLC) ( offers adult literacy programs to provide opportunities for Detroit-area adult learners to succeed and improve their lives.  The Director is responsible for managing the operations and community relations, reporting to the Board of Directors.  S/He will serve as spokesperson for the Center, conveying its mission and programs to the community.

General Responsibilities                                           

    • Manage the overall operations and maintenance of the Center.
        • Implement a strategic plan to support and maintain the Center’s mission.
        • Lead and support the partnership among the staff, volunteers and learners.
        • Develop and implement strategies to recruit and retain volunteers and learners.
      • Hire, as needed, train and supervise staff.
    • Collaborate with local and state partners in promoting adult literacy.
    • Increase the visibility of the Center in diverse communities.
  • Maintain a program that is fiscally sound:
      • Engage with donor communities.  Be responsible for grant writing and developing other resources to support the Center’s mission.
      • Prepare periodic progress reports as required by grantors, Board.
      • Manage finances: Monthly bookkeeping / payroll, annual audit.
    • Maintain policies and procedures to ensure the integrity of the Center.

Job Qualifications

·       Bachelor’s degree in related field; Master’s degree preferred

·       Transparent and high integrity leadership

·       Five or more years senior nonprofit management experience

·       Strong knowledge of instructional methods and training techniques.


·       Proven organizational abilities including planning, program development, and delegation

·       Knowledge of fundraising strategies and experience in successful grant writing

·       Talent for respectfully engaging with diverse learner, volunteer, and donor groups

·       Ability to engage with and serve learners in multicultural, multiracial, underserved communities.
