August 19 Membership Check-In: In August 2020, MACAE held a Membership Check-In on Return to Work and Learn resources,  MACAE association updates, funding and advocacy initiatives.  We would like to thank Augustine Syrovy from the Michigan Occupation Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) for sharing his expertise and resources.  You can find a link to his Michigan COVID-19 Resources.  A recording of the session can be found here.

7-30 GED Testing Centers Check-In MACAE hosted a GED Testing Centers Check-In on July 30, 2020.  The Check-In reviewed opening guidance for testing centers, online proctoring update, Pearson Vue Center Testing Guidance (PVTC COVID Guide_May2020_F (2)) and an update on State Guidance.  A recording of the session can be found here. May 20 Membership Check-In On May 20th MACAE Conducted a Membership wide Check-in.  This included an update on MACAE’s operations and programming, an update from the State Adult Education Office on their updated assessment policy, an advocacy update for membership and a look at our Framework for Reopening to be released soon. April 15 Membership Check- InOn April 15, 2020 MACAE conducted a Membership wide Check-In in response to the Coronavirus.  This was the second such update to our membership.  We presented important resources and updates from the Michigan Department of Education and the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity. State Adult Education Staff were also on the call.  MACAE made several recommendations regarding staff responsibilities and continued operations of program. April 2020.

Forms and Templates:

MACAE Return to Learn and Work Framework MACAE’s Template for Reopening Fall 2020.  This should serve as a guideline for all programs.

MACAE- Template for Programs Interim Plan for Operations: MACAE recommends that ALL programs develop a written Interim Plan for Operations that can be shared with staff members, participants, community stakeholders, etc.  This Template can be used as a guide for programs to develop plans around articulating what operations they currently are running, which staff are working and considered essential, what expectations there are for students.  MACAE encourages ALL programs to refer to this template and make adjustments as new developments occur. Priorities Page: This document outlines the priorities that programs should focus on regarding the interim closure of a program due to Coronavirus.  MACAE encourages all member programs to have documentation for these recommendations.

Best Practices for Sustained Program Operations:MACAE recommends that programs implement these Best Practices for Sustained Program Operations during this time to leverage potential long-term programmatic changes.  This is an action-oriented check list that can be completed this week or next. Accompanying documents are listed below.

Staff Hours: This document could serve as a sample hourly staff log.  During this unprecedented time, many staff members are working different hours or in slightly different capacities.  In agreement with the Michigan Department of Education and Michigan Labor and Economic Opportunity, MACAE encourages all programs to pay staff members (salary or hourly) during this time.  Ultimately, it is a local decision, but state and federal funds are allocated. MACAE recommends that programs have staff members document work hours during this time, especially if that staff member is functioning in a different capacity.  This document could serve as a sample hourly staff log.

Age of Learning: Age of Learning announced they are providing free home access to ABCmouseAdventure Academy, and ReadingIQ for all affected families in the U.S.

Aztec Learning Software: Aztec Software is pleased to support the adult learners in Michigan by offering online courses for adult education programs that have made the decision to switch to online learning rather than direct instruction. Burlington English: Burlington English is offering 100% web based CORE program in order to limit the disruption to the learners. Students will be able to access Burlington virtually from their desktops, tablets, Ipads, phones, etc. Burlington is offering a 3 month option with the 4th month free for $24 per seat to get them through this crisis.
